Jennifer DeJournett
Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University. While at Iowa State, she chose to take many of her electives in Political Science. In the 2008 election cycle, Jennifer ran for office and barely lost election by a ½ % of the vote. While analyzing her race, she developed a method to help Republican candidates gain a competitive edge; identifying vote patterns of their core constituencies and identifying weaknesses in their opponent(s). Being a long-time Republican volunteer, in 2008 she chose to leave the Engineering field and apply her technical skills and interest in Political Science to help Republican candidates win elections in a tough election environment.
Todd DeJournett
While earning his PhD in Environmental Engineering, Todd became familiar with multi-variate statistical tools. When helping Jennifer understand the results of the 2008 School Board election, Todd suggested that Jennifer try to apply these tools to the election data. After trying several different techniques, a suite of methods was developed that could not only discern the trends that lead to the election outcome, but could also be used to simulate the outcome of a future election based on adjustments in strategy. It became clear that these methods could not only be helpful to Jennifer, but also to those Republican candidates who helped her campaign. Jointly, Jennifer and Todd founded SARA to provide technical assistance to Republican candidates.
